Repercussions – Africa Comeback (1984 · Directed by Dennis Marks)
About the film
This remarkable documentary follows Daniel “Koo Nimo” Amponsah on a musical journey across Ghana, tracing the living traditions that have shaped the country’s sonic landscape. Moving between villages, recording sessions, and informal gatherings, the film captures encounters with master drummers, palm-wine guitarists, highlife bands, court musicians, and custodians of oral song, each contributing to a rich tapestry of rhythm, memory, and storytelling. What unfolds is not only a portrait of one of Ghana’s most revered musicians, but also a meditation on transmission: how music travels, adapts, and endures across generations.
The musicians featured within the documentary include Segun Adewale & His Superstars International, Nana Ampadu & African Brothers, Smart Nkansah & Sunsum Band and Koo Nimo. All of whom are archived in Efie Gallery’s record collection and currently on view in Rekord Gallery.
Due to capacity, registrations for this screening have now closed.
