Cette Maison

Film Screening | In Collaboration with Bootleg Griot Friday, 2 October 2026 Rekord Gallery, Dubai United Arab Emirates

Efie Gallery and Bootleg Griot present a monthly film programme in the Rekord Gallery tracing the intertwined histories of African and Arab liberation cinema. Through a carefully considered selection of films, the series reflects on how sound and image have shaped political consciousness, cultural memory, and diasporic imagination across continents.

Cette Maison (2022 · Directed by Miryam Charles)

About the film

Moving between Haiti, Canada and the United States, Cette maison occupies a space between memory, imagination and lived experience. Drawing from personal and familial histories, Charles constructs a film in which time is fluid and the boundaries between documentary and fiction, presence and absence, become increasingly porous.

Describing the film through ideas of "memory reconstruction and fragmented memory," Charles allows recollection to shape its very form. Shot on 16mm, Cette Maison unfolds through carefully composed landscapes, domestic spaces and fragments of sound, reflecting on migration, grief, exile and the meaning of home. As Charles observes, "Sound allows us more freedom in telling stories," opening a space in which memory is not simply revisited, but reimagined.
